Brittany and its rugged coastline is steeped in historical traditions, language and huge pride of a Celtic past. Made up of the four regional departments of Cotes d’Amor, Finistère, Morbihan and Ile & Vilaine, the Breton region has much to offer. St Malo is famous for its walled city or intramuros. Inside the walls lies a town full of charm and character, For breathtaking views, stop by the ramparts and Porte St-Vincent to marvel over the bay and surrounding islands. Not far south from St Malo is Dinan, with an impressive Vieille Ville (old town). The half-timbered houses and cobbled street provide the perfect back drop from which to discover town. As you travel further west, you reach Finistère with imposing cliff faces and headlands and the popular tourist resorts of Concarneau, Bénodet and Pont-Aven. The family-friendly resort of Bénodet is a great location for young and old and has a long sheltered beach. The flowered town of Concarneau is worth a visit, especially the old town, or Ville Close. Pont-Aven lies 14km east of Concarneau and is packed with art galleries and a picturesque port. No trip to Brittany would be complete without sampling a crêpe or gallette, available with every filling you can imagine. You’ll find it difficult to find a menu that doesn’t feature moules marinières or soupe de poissons.
