The most famous towns on the coast are probably Nice and Cannes but other popular tourist destinations include Antibes, St Tropez, Menton, the principality of Monaco, Ste Maxime, St Raphael, Grasse, Grimaud and Villefranche-sur-Mer. Nice is the 5th largest city in France and boasts the world famous Promenade des Anglais, overlooking the Baie des Anges and home to some of the Riviera’s most fanciful hotels. Known more so for its annual film festival, Cannes is a chic and glitzy town with boutique after boutique lined along the Rue d’Antibes and Promenade de la Croisette. Antibes/Juan-Les-Pins has one of the best markets in the region and once little more than a small fishing village, St Tropez attracts the rich and famous and runs a shuttle service to Tahiti-Plage lined with restaurants and bars. Awash with beautiful Belle-Epoque style houses, St Raphaël is a great location for water sports enthusiasts with every kind of activity available for you to try. Villefranche-sur-Mer is built on a hill and overlooks the sparkling Mediterranean sea. Aside from the harbour and the beaches, the old town is made up of steep cobbled streets and ancient houses and is worth a visit.
