The town of Royan is lies south of La Rochelle, at the mouth of the Gironde estuary and boasts some of the best beaches in the region. Cognac is a small port which sits on the Charente river and is most famous for its brandy. Other day trips and places to visit include Rochefort and its Centre International de la Mer, the town of Saintes which dates back to Roman times and the Ile d'Oléron which is famous for its oysters. |
