Set beside a meandering river and within walking distance of Vic-sur-Aisne, La Croix du Vieux Pont justly deserves its 3 ‘red tent’ rating in the Michelin Guide. The attractively landscaped parkland has tall poplar trees and weeping willows. The old stone farm buildings which house the restaurant and bar have been tastefully converted and the terrace overlooks the swimming pool, which now features indoor waterslides and covered children’s pool. You can hire pedalos and canoes on the small campsite lake. The site remains extremely popular amongst anglers. Traffic can sometimes be heard.

Walking, cycling and pony trekking in the nearby forest are popular family outings. Compiègne, the Royal Palace of Louis XIV is well worth a visit. Disneyland® Resort Paris and the centre of Paris are just over an hour and a half drive. The huge 12th century fairy tale castle dominates the village of Pierrefonds, thirteen and a half miles away.
