Cottages in Charente

The Charente region lies on the west coast of France, just south of the Vendée and is said to be one of the sunniest areas in France.

Whether you choose a cottage near La Rochelle or not, it's a great place for a day trip. A medieval port city with fortifications, one of La Rochelle's highlights is the picturesque old harbour which also happens to be a great place to sample fresh seafood and other local products.

Across the bridge is the chic island resort of Ile de Ré, approx 30km long and famous for its sandy beaches and traditional oyster farming. St Martin de Ré is the capital, an attractive fishing port surrounded by stone, whitewashed houses. Other towns include La Flotte and Ars-en-Ré.

Driving to Charente

Our cottages in Charente can be booked accommodation only or packaged with a ferry crossing.

A Portsmouth to Caen ferry crossing would be one of the best options and then a 4-6 hour journey to your Charente holiday cottage depending on the property location. A good way to break the journey up is to book an overnight hotel.
