Also known as the French Riviera, the Cote d’Azur, is a pleasant mix of glitz, glamour, sun, sea and stunning landscapes. The most famous towns on the coast are probably Nice and Cannes but other popular tourist destinations include Antibes, St Tropez, Menton, the principality of Monaco, Ste Maxime, St Raphael, Grasse, Grimaud and Villefranche-sur-Mer. Nice is the 5th largest city in France and boasts the world famous Promenade des Anglais, overlooking the Baie des Anges and home to some of the Riviera’s most fanciful hotels. Known more so for its annual film festival, Cannes is a chic and glitzy town with boutique after boutique lined along the Rue d’Antibes and Promenade de la Croisette.   Antibes/Juan-Les-Pins has one of the best markets in the region and once little more than a small fishing village, St Tropez attracts the rich and famous and runs a shuttle service to Tahiti-Plage lined with restaurants and bars. Awash with beautiful Belle-Epoque style houses, St Raphaël is a great location for water sports enthusiasts with every kind of activity available for you to try. Villefranche-sur-Mer is built on a hill and overlooks the sparkling Mediterranean sea. Aside from the harbour and the beaches, the old town is made up of steep cobbled streets and ancient houses and is worth a visit. The town of Menton is famous for its orange and lemon groves and even holds an annual lemon festival. Protected by the mountains, sunshine levels are high and there is a real Italian feel to the town being just a few kilometres from the Italian border. Monaco is an independent principality with its own royal family, flash cars, expensive diamonds and more police per square metre than anywhere else in the world! Monte Carlo is its best-known town, famous of course for the Grand Prix and home to the grand and opulent casino.
