Avignon is perhaps one of the most famous cities in Provence, if not France and was once the Papal capital. A splendidly preserved medieval city and still surrounded by the original walls, essential visits are the Palais des Papes (Pope’s Palace) and of course the Pont d’Avignon (Avignon Bridge).

Aix-en-Provence is an attractive city with decorative streets. Perhaps one of the most visited places in Provence is the Verdon Gorge, Europe’s largest canyon and a must for anyone in the area. The canyon is at its most impressive between the towns of Castellane and Moustiers-Ste-Marie. Many visitors choose to drive around the top, a 130km drive with breathtaking views.

Arles boasts a well-preserved Roman arena (Les Arènes), and is often the setting for tauromachie or bullfighting. The old town of St-Rémy-de-Provence is a circle of boulevards lined with quaint houses, shops and restaurants and other great places to stay or visit include Isle sur la Sorgue, Carpentras and Apt
