Luxury Mobile Homes & Tents - Camping Northern France |
Lush rolling pastures, cows grazing among the orchards, old half-timbered farmhouses... Normandy urges you to slow down in every sense. Despite an annual tourist invasion every year the region remains largely untouched. Arriving in Basse Normandie across the mammoth Pont de Normandie, the road leads straight to the painters’ paradise Honfleur with its picture-book harbour. Along the coast, yachting marina Deauville still attracts the Paris crowds. Trouville sur Mer and Houlgate offer wide sandy beaches, ideal for younger families to have some seaside fun. The dramatic coastline of towering cliffs and beaches to the west draws visitors to view the D-Day landing beaches. Don't miss the pretty town of Bayeux, home to the 11th century Bayeux tapestry. Be sure to head south to Mont St Michel, a medieval village set on a granite mound in the sea, topped by a Gothic monastery and fortress. The vast bays of glorious beaches, and a secretive, almost mystical interior are likely to be your lasting impressions of Brittany. Enjoy regional specialities such as crepes, cider and locally-caught seafood. This most westward region of France, where the Bretons speak their ancient language and carry on age-old traditions, always seems a little out of step with mainstream France, but the many attractions welcome visitors in their thousands year after year. In the north, its rugged coastline reminiscent of Cornwall, head for the ancient ramparts and cobbled streets of the river port of Dinan, and St Malo's colourful pavement cafes. To the west, visit Brest for its old attractions, a 15th century castle, and the new, the Oceanopolis marine theme park. In south Brittany, enjoy the mild sea conditions and broad sandy beaches dotted with sheltered bays and pretty fishing ports. The attractive medieval town of Vannes makes for an easy day trip.
