The Aquitaine region stretches from north of Arcachon down to the Spanish border, across to the Midi-Pyrenees and the Dordogne (please see separate guide to the Dordogne) and is one of the great historic regions of France.
The magnificent city of Bordeaux boasts an attractive eighteenth century old town, located between the river and the cathedral. Just North of the city is the famous wine-producing region of Médoc and the coastal resort of Arcachon is particularly famous for the `Dune du Pilat', the largest sand dune in Europe. |
