Situated inland in the South-west of France, the Dordogne is probably one of the best-known regions and attracts thousands of tourists each year.
Probably one of the most famous villages in the Dordogne is Sarlat-la-Canéda, a beautiful example of 15th and 16th Century architecture with a bustling, pedestrianised `vielle ville'. Just 30km north of Sarlat near the pretty village of Montignac in Les Eyzies-de-Tayac are the world famous Lascaux Caves.
The Dordogne is home to the official `most beautiful villages in France' and the village of La Roque Gageac (8km south of Sarlat is no exception). A true example of a picture postcard, the village attracts scores of tourists each year.
