Self-drive holidays with Eurotunnel via the Folkestone to Calais Channel tunnel are a fantastic way to travel to Europe and offer freedom and flexibility for the independent traveller. Travelling with Eurotunnel is one of the quickest ways of crossing the English Channel and is a great, hassle-free way of starting your holiday. There are no fuel supplements or restrictions on your luggage nor any car parking or car hire charges to worry about. Crossings are frequent, with up to 3 departures an hour at peak times and take approximately 35 minutes.

Direct links to the motorway

One advantage of travelling with Eurotunnel between Folkestone and Calais is the direct links to the motorway and en-route to your destination without having to drive from the port or negotiate local traffic, especially at peak times.

Eurotunnel Location

UK: Close to Folkstone, with a dedicated motorway exit at junction 11A of the M20. This will take you straight to the Check-In booths.

France: Just outside of Calais, take junction 42 from the A16 motorway. The slip road takes you directly to the Check-In booths.

Boarding Eurotunnel

Boarding is simple and safe - you will be directed to your carriage by a member of staff. At the end of the crossing, you simply drive off and head to your holiday destination.

What to expect from your Eurotunnel journey

Passengers stay with their vehicle throughout the journey in the air-conditioned carriages. You are free to remain in your car or get out and stretch your legs. There are display screens which offer information about your journey and onboard staff who can answer any queries you may have.

Each Eurotunnel terminal has ample parking and the terminal buildings are equipped with cash machines (ATMs), a bureau de change, toilet facilities and an information desk. In the shopping mall you can buy perfume, jewellery, souvenirs, wine and spirits. There is a newsagent, bureau de change, restaurants and cafés.

What is included in the Eurotunnel price?

The price you are quoted is for all passengers in your vehicle including the driver. If you have added a pet, this will also be included in the price.

Is cabin accommodation included in the price?

There are no onboard accommodation.

Are there any meals included in the price?

No. There are no on-board cafés, bars or restaurants. There is a buffet car, but as this is a quick journey it may not be worth your time queueing. We recommend you bring your own food, snacks and drinks with you, or have some food at the terminal building if you have time before boarding.
Are there toilets on the train?
There are toilets at the end of the train carriages, but at busy times there can be a queue so it may be easier to use the toilets in the terminal building before boarding the train.

Can I take my pet with me on Eurotunnel?

Once you have gone past the barriers to get into the terminal, you can park up and let your pet stretch their legs in the dedicated pet exercise area before you drive on to the train. During the train journey, your pet stays with you in the comfort of your own car. When leaving the UK, pets are not required to go through any Pet Control checks. It is only when returning to the UK that they are required to go to the Pet Reception Building at our Calais Terminal, where their chip can be scanned and paperwork checked.
