The resorts of Valmeinier and Valloire make up what is now known as the Galibier-Thabor which offers 150km of downhill slopes, most above 2000m which ensures that snow conditions are good. The Sétaz area generally have the best snow - and the more difficult slopes. The Crey du Quart has a choice of slopes linking to the Valmeinier valley. Valmeinier is an intermediates playground with long blue runs for the more nervous skiers and over 30 red runs and 6 black runs for anyone who wants more of a challenge.
Valloire has a 'real' French village feel to it and has managed to maintain its traditional feel throughout the years. A year round resort there is much activity and a variety of restaurants, crêperies and bars as well as winter activities. A great resort if you have non-skiers in your group, from the cinema to dog-sledging to paragliding!
Valmeinier has two villages 1500 and 1800, with much of the best accommodation is in the satellite resort Valmeinier 1800 with mostly ski-in/ski-out apartments. Valmeinier is a small, friendly resort great for families but with enough activity in the evenings to keep everyone happy.
